Out of the blue my Western Digital hard drive stopped working without any noticed. Drive had not taken a fall or anything. I contacted WD Support but they advised I needed to send the external drive to a Data Recovery company. - No two of them failed the same way — a Western Digital external that stopped dead with no warning, a camera memory card, a drive dropped on the floor with its case cracked beyond repair, and two Macs, one of them handed back on DVDs. Three of the ten never say what the machine was at all, only that the files came home. That mix is a normal month here.
- Two had already tried something else first — one worked through the free recovery software online and got nowhere, and another sent the drive to a different recovery company that could only return bits and pieces. Both then had the whole lot back. Since the assessment costs nothing, a second opinion costs you the postage.
