Who we are. This site trades under the name Plymouth Data Recovery. Easy Data Recovery Ltd is the company standing behind it: registered in Northern Ireland as company NI625698, and on the ICO's register as ZC173784. Write to us about data protection at the lab where our parcels arrive. What we hold about you, item by item

Your enquiry. Ring, or fill in the form, and four items remain with us: your name, an email address, a number we can ring, and the description of the fault in your own words. Remove any one of them and there is no way to reply to you, judge the device, price the job or complete it. Lawful basis: the pre-contract steps you asked us to take, followed by the contract.

The case file. This holds a case number, the correspondence, the written quote, your go-ahead and the postage records. It is how the job is run, and it is what gets checked when our accounts and statutory returns are audited. Lawful bases: contract, and legal obligation.

What sits on the device. Recovering your files means an engineer handling them, which is simply the work. Nothing is opened that the job does not call for, and no disk is read out of curiosity. What comes off it reaches you and reaches nobody else. Lawful basis: the performance of a contract. Special category material found on a device gets the recovery you paid for, and no more than that.

What will not happen

• No mailing list is kept, no newsletter is sent, and nobody buys or sells your details.
• No advertising cookie is set here, no tracking cookie either. Where you go after closing the tab is your business.
• Neither your device nor anything read from it leaves the UK. The work is carried out in our own lab.

Who else touches any of this

Only the ones a job genuinely needs. Hostinger host this site and carry the mail our contact form arrives on. A courier moves the box and reads what is written on the label. Our accountants are sent invoices and never files. All of them are under contract, and none is free to use your details for anything we have not asked for. Nothing reaches an authority unless the law requires it.

How long anything is kept here

Your files reach you first. The working copies then sit locked up for thirty days — the margin for a second look, should one be wanted — and are securely destroyed at the end of it. Where a device is unpaid for, or has not been collected inside that period, the Terms govern what happens. Paperwork from the enquiry and the case is retained six years, the span that tax, legal and warranty obligations require, then disposed of.

Rights you are able to use

Your statutory rights stand untouched. Ask, and a copy of what is held about you follows — that is a subject access request — together with the rights to have it corrected, erased, restricted, moved elsewhere, or to object. Telephone, or write to the address given above. You are owed an answer within a calendar month. Where that answer does not satisfy you, a complaint can go to the Information Commissioner — ico.org.uk — although coming back to us first is normally the faster route.

Your device while it is with us

A single case reference is marked on the device when it is booked in, and remains there until the day it is posted back to you. For the whole of that time it sits locked away, touched only by the engineers assigned to the case. Anything recovered leaves on new media. The copies we hold are destroyed on the timetable above. Were a breach to put your rights at risk, notice would go to the ICO inside 72 hours, and to you too, worded plainly and sent without delay.
